Clay speaks every language. Every culture has found distinct ways to shape, color, decorate, and harden this moist, natural treasure. Clay objects endure. They give ancient civilizations a voice.
During this week long class, we will draw inspiration form the magical work of Mary Blair – artist, illustrator, graphic designer and animator. We will create pottery pieces and tiles based on her wonderful use of color and modernist designs using various clay building techniques and finishes.
We will end the week with a group made piñata, celebrating Blair's work for Disney's The Three Caballeros and Fiesta.
Micropottery's small projects dry overnight to compress the full experience of ceramics into a week.
Kiara Matos, is herself, an international work of art.
